Diamond OA communities-of-practice in action: Wayfinders #6

Exploring the realities of Diamond Open Access

The term diamond open access can carry different meanings for different communities. At its heart, however, it is grounded in two core principles: no fees for authors or readers, and governance led by scholars themselves.

For some, this model represents the most inclusive and equitable form of open access. For others, its financial sustainability remains a key challenge.

The upcoming session in the OASPA Wayfinder series will take a closer look at these questions, aiming to dispel myths and share practical insights from those coordinating diamond OA communities around the world.

Speakers include:

  • Femi Arogundade, No-Fee Open Access Publishing in Africa Community of Practice moderator
  • Jane Buggle, Irish Open Access Publishers’ Diamond group co-ordinator
  • Tracy Creagh, Australasian Diamond Community of Practice co-convener

The session will take place on 5 November 2025, at 8pm AEDT | 9am GMT | 10am WAT | 10am CET

Moderated by Malavika Legge from OASPA, this discussion will offer a practical and inclusive space to reflect on how diamond OA can evolve and thrive. Participants are warmly invited to join live, share experiences, and bring questions to the panel!
